Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to automatic decisions for self-diagnostic triggers in safety-related sensors. The pressure sensor module includes: a pressure sensor configured to periodically measure an internal air pressure within the housing and generate a sensor signal having a plurality of sensor values; a signal processing chain for conditioning the sensor signal to generate a plurality of conditioned sensor values; a memory configured to store each of the adjustment sensor values; and processing circuitry coupled to the pressure sensor via a signal processing chain for receiving a current adjusted sensor value, and coupled to a memory for receiving a previous adjusted sensor value. The processing circuitry is configured to monitor a fault, including: calculating a pressure difference between a current regulated sensor value and a previous sensor value; comparing the pressure difference value with a pressure threshold value; and triggering a diagnosis of the signal processing chain if the pressure difference is greater than the pressure threshold.
