A collision energy absorbing component (1) for an automobile, which is provided to the front or rear part of a vehicle body and which absorbs collision energy when a collision load is input from the front or rear part of the vehicle body, is provided with: a top plate part (5a); a cylindrical member (3) having a vertical wall portion (5c) continuous with the top plate portion (5a) via a punch shoulder R portion (5b); and a resin (9) that is applied or adhered to at least the inner surface of the punch shoulder R section (5b) of the cylindrical member (3), the resin (9) having a thickness that gradually changes from one end side toward the other end side in the axial direction, the thickest portion of the resin (9) being 8 mm or less, the resin (9) being adhered to the inner surface at an adhesive strength of 10 MPa or more, and generating axial crushing when the impact load is input.
