In a vehicle rear monitoring system and a vehicle rear monitoring method according to the present invention, the rear monitoring system monitors an object positioned above and behind a truck, and is provided with: an object detection unit that is provided in the truck and detects an object positioned above and behind an upper end of a rear end of the truck; an object determination unit that determines a position, a size, and a velocity vector with respect to the truck of the object detected by the object detection unit; and a collision likelihood determination unit that determines the likelihood that the object detected by the object detection unit collides with the truck on the basis of the position, size, and velocity vector of the object identified by the object identification unit, and causes the driver of the truck to know the likelihood that the collision has occurred when it is determined that there is a likelihood that the collision has occurred.

    本发明的车辆的后方监视系统及车辆的后方监视方法中,后方监视系统对位于卡车的后上方的物体进行监视,该后方监视系统具备:物体检测部,设置于卡车,检测比卡车的后端的上端更靠后上方的物体;物体确定部,确定物体检测部检测到的物体的位置、大小及相对于卡车的速度矢量;以及碰撞可能性判定部,根据物体确定部所确定的物体的位置、大小及物体的速度矢量,判定物体检测部检测到的物体与卡车发生碰撞的可能性,在判定为有发生碰撞的可能性的情况下,使卡车的驾驶员知晓有发生碰撞的可能性。
