The invention relates to a vehicle and a computer-implemented method of operating a vehicle. The method includes: receiving a first signal from a pedal indicating that no pressure is applied on the pedal, the pedal being configured to provide a manual input to an operation of the vehicle when pressed; determining whether the vehicle is within a threshold distance from an object in front of the vehicle; if the distance between the vehicle and the object is within the threshold distance, enabling regenerative braking to reduce the speed of the vehicle; and if the distance between the vehicle and the object is greater than the threshold distance, preventing activation of regenerative braking to allow the vehicle to coast.
