A control device according to the invention for operating a road-coupled hybrid vehicle is provided with at least one electronic control unit, a first drive unit associated with a main axle and a second drive unit associated with a secondary axle. The drive unit of the main axle has at least one internal combustion engine and an automatic transmission. The drive unit of the secondary axle has at least one electric drive motor. The control unit is designed to receive, as input variables, a predetermined total target creeping moment and a command for switching from a single-axle operation to a dual-axle operation with a predetermined all-wheel factor. The control unit then sets a predetermined target torque for the internal combustion engine of the main axle according to the all-wheel factor. The control unit also detects the actual clutch torque of the transmission thus generated. If a functional module of the control unit determines a difference between an actual clutch torque and a total target creep torque, the functional module presets a corresponding target torque for an electric drive motor of the secondary axle in order to compensate for the difference.
