Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided in a vehicle to reduce the likelihood of trailer buckling conditions. The method comprises the following steps: receiving trailer configuration information; receiving a dynamic vehicle steering angle ([delta]) and a dynamic hitch articulation angle ([theta]) when the vehicle moves in reverse; continuously calculating a maximum safe vehicle speed (Vmax) at which the vehicle is driven in the reverse direction without bending on the basis of the trailer configuration information, delta, theta, a predetermined safe time (TTJne) before bending, and a maximum hitch hinge angle ([theta] jk); comparing the current vehicle longitudinal speed (V) with Vmax; when V exceeds Vmax, automatically generating a speed correction signal to decelerate the vehicle below Vmax; and sending the speed correction signal to the vehicle motion control system to instruct the vehicle motion control system to reduce V below Vmax.
