The invention relates to safety and/or performance monitoring of an automated driving system. Methods and systems for safety and/or performance monitoring of an automatic driving system (ADS) are disclosed. The method includes: obtaining a plurality of performance indicators (PIs) generated by each of a plurality of vehicles based on a driving session, the plurality of PIs being PIs of at least one PI type, each PI type indicating a safety-critical or quality-critical event to which the vehicle is exposed during the driving session; each PI type is modeled based on an extreme theoretical model, each modeled PI type indicating a probability of exceeding a PI value of the PI type, and each modeled PI type is estimated relative to predefined requirements. If the estimate indicates that the modeled PI type does not meet the predefined requirement, it is determined that the ADS violates the safety or quality requirement, and a first signal indicative of the violated safety or quality requirement is transmitted to the ADS management system and/or a second signal to the vehicle.
