An automobile adaptive cruise control method for dynamically adjusting an expected safe distance is characterized in that a safe distance strategy switching module, an MPC controller, an acceleration control conversion module and a CarSim vehicle model are included in the method; the safe distance switching strategy module is used for determining an expected safe distance and an expected speed; the MPC controller solves the acceleration of the automobile according to the expected safety distance, the expected speed and the automobile driving state; the CarSim vehicle model is used for outputting the actual driving state of the vehicle, including the speed of the vehicle, the acceleration of the vehicle, the relative speed, the relative distance, the gear and the rotating speed of an engine; and the acceleration control conversion module converts the acceleration optimized by the MPC into the throttle opening and the brake master cylinder pressure, and inputs the throttle opening and the brake master cylinder pressure to the CarSim vehicle model to realize the safety cooperative control of the self-adaptive cruise vehicle and the front vehicle.
