The scanning-type light source (200A) includes a semiconductor light source (212), and scans an instantaneous irradiation point (SPT) based on light emitted from the semiconductor light source (212) in the horizontal direction of light distribution. The lighting circuit (300J) is capable of dimming the amount of light of the semiconductor light source (212) at each scanning position at multiple gradation levels in synchronization with scanning of the scanning-type light source (200A). The lighting circuit (300J) is capable of switching between a first mode in which the semiconductor light source (212) is lit by pulse width modulation in a load cycle corresponding to the light reduction rate, and a second mode in which the semiconductor light source (212) is extinguished within a cycle number corresponding to the light reduction rate.
