The invention relates to a method for braking an unmanned mining truck based on the running state of the unmanned mining truck and the unmanned mining truck, and the method comprises the steps: detecting the real-time physical parameters of the unmanned mining truck in the running process through a sensor, and transmitting the real-time physical parameters to a vehicle controller; the vehicle controller judges the current running state of the unmanned mining truck by means of the real-time physical parameters; the vehicle controller estimates the magnitude of the braking force or the braking current required for braking the unmanned mining truck within the shortest safe braking distance range by means of the current running speed, the current total weight and the current running state of the unmanned mining truck on the basis of a braking force model stored in the vehicle controller; and when the unmanned mining truck needs to be braked, braking is carried out based on the estimated braking force or braking current, so that the braking distance of the unmanned mining truck is controlled within the shortest safe braking distance range. Therefore, safe driving of the unmanned mining truck is ensured.
