A brake system coupled between a brake and an actuator provides a modular form that allows multiple brake modules (12, 14, 16, 18) to be coupled together at an interface and coupled to other modules to handle a variety of different brake scenarios. Each brake module (12, 14, 16, 18) includes a housing (54, 56) forming a manifold for delivering fluid to an interface (90) of the module for exchange between the modules. The brake module (12, 14, 16, 18) includes a hydraulic valve (68) connected to a source of pressurized fluid for delivering fluid to achieve a braking function. The module (12, 14, 16, 18) also includes an electro-hydraulic valve (50, 52) configured to receive an electrical input signal and to deliver fluid at an actuation pressure proportional to the system pressure from the pressurized fluid source to the hydraulic valve (68) based on a level of the received electrical input signal. Module interfaces (90) are located on respective sides of the housing (54, 56) for connecting the brake modules (12, 14, 16, 18) together and include repeating patterns of holes (100) for alignment between the brake modules (12, 14, 16, 18). The aligned bores (100) are configured for transferring fluid under system pressure and fluid under tank pressure between the plurality of brake modules (12, 14, 16, 18).
