The invention relates to a real-time monitoring device and method for a biodiversity protection area. The real-time monitoring device comprises a base structure used for fixing the monitoring device in soil, a monitoring structure used for visual monitoring, a floating structure used for lifting a shell in a wet season and a locking assembly used for locking the shell in a dry season. According to the monitoring device, by arranging the floating structure, the shell and the monitoring structure can float along with the water level when the wetland rises, the situation that equipment leaks water and rusts due to the fact that the monitoring assembly is soaked in water for a long time is avoided, the locking assembly is further arranged, the locking assembly is unlocked through water level buoyancy when the wetland rises, and automatic locking is achieved through self weight when the water level is lowered; the device is low in gravity center and can effectively resist collision of wild animals in cooperation with the round appearance.
