A thermal management system for one or more components of a vehicle includes one or more heat generating components, and one or more compartments for receiving the one or more heat generating components. One or more vent openings are located in the one or more compartments. Each exhaust opening of the one or more exhaust openings is closed by a thermally active material such that when exhaust gases from the one or more components interact with the thermally active material, the one or more exhaust openings are opened, allowing removal of the exhaust gases from the compartment. The one or more exhaust manifolds are located proximate the one or more exhaust openings. The one or more exhaust manifolds are configured to direct exhaust gases into the environment through one or more manifold openings of the one or more exhaust manifolds.
