The present disclosure provides a driveline disconnect clutch operation method and system. Systems and methods for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle are presented. In one example, a boost phase of a procedure for closing a driveline disconnect clutch may be shortened in response to the engine changing state from non-rotation to rotation, such that the engine may be alternatively restarted. The system and method may also predict a deteriorated engine start from a low engine spin start speed or a long spin start duration, such that the engine may be started in an alternative manner to increase the likelihood of starting the engine and reduce the severity of deteriorated driveline disturbances.
