The invention relates to a drive unit (100) for adjusting a movable part in a motor vehicle and to a method for operating such a drive unit (100), comprising a first spindle drive (10) driven by a first electric motor (12) and a second spindle drive (20) driven by a second electric motor (22), the first spindle drive (10) and the second spindle drive (20) are connected to each other by means of at least one spindle (14, 24) in order to jointly adjust a part (50) to be adjusted of exactly one adjustment plane.
