The present disclosure provides "collaborative generation of solar radiation maps". A method for controlling a first vehicle includes receiving a solar radiation data set indicative of historical solar radiation at a first parking location of a local vehicle parking area based on a vehicle parking space locator request, and determining, based on the set of solar radiation data, that a predicted solar energy generation at the first parking location during the parking duration is greater than any other prediction of available parking locations in the parking area. The method includes determining a first vehicle orientation at the first parking location based on the solar radiation data set. The first vehicle orientation provides a maximized probability of sun illumination during the parking duration. The method also includes causing the processor to position the first vehicle in the first parking position and the first vehicle orientation, and charging a first vehicle battery during the parking duration.
