The invention discloses a variable counterweight type elevator. The left and right water pipes and the left and right rack type rails are connected to the rear shaft wall and the left and right shaft walls of the elevator shaft correspondingly. The water tank is connected with the water pipe through a sliding groove, and the car is connected with the rail through a guide seat and connected with the water tank through a traction rope and a fixed pulley. The water suction pump and the drainage pump are arranged on the water tank and correspond to the water stop valves in the left and right water pipes through the left and right water control valves. And the left and right lifting motors are arranged on the car and are respectively meshed with the racks on the left and right rails through gears. When the car door of the car is aligned with the elevator door of the floor, the water control valves on the drainage pump and the water suction pump can be respectively aligned with the water stop valves on the left water pipe and the right water pipe. When the weight of the lift car changes, the water suction pump or the water draining pump can enable the lift car and the water tank to achieve weight balance by pumping water in the water pipe into the water tank or draining water in the water tank into the water pipe. And the lift car and the water tank with balanced weight can be easily driven up and down by matching the lifting motor and the gear with the rack on the track.
