The invention relates to a system and method for detecting flap jamming of an aircraft wing. There is provided a jam detection system for a flap of a wing of an aircraft, the jam detection system comprising: a linkage coupled to the flap and a support of the wing; and a sensor configured to detect a position of at least a portion of the linkage mechanism. The sensor is further configured to compare the position of the at least a portion of the linkage to a jamming threshold to determine if a jamming condition exists. The linkage may also be coupled to a carriage movably coupled to the support.
