A lifting device having a force absorbing base to which a boom with a lifting cable for lifting a load in a substantially vertical direction is tiltably connected is described. The lifting device is provided with an auxiliary device which is used for resisting the tilting of the suspension arm in the case of sudden load loss. The auxiliary device is connected to the base of the lifting device and provides a contact surface which is in permanent contact with the contact surface of the boom or in the event of a tip-over, and the auxiliary device further comprises a drive and control system, the drive and control system is configured to prevent movement of the boom when a predetermined force between the contact surfaces is exceeded as a result of a tip-over of the boom. The described auxiliary device may take a separate form and may be provided on the lifting device.
