An operating system for a vehicle having an electric vehicle (EV) driveline and a plurality of electric accessories is described. The controller determines a target off-road path segment via the navigation system and characterizes the target vehicle, environmental conditions, and the target off-road path segment to determine an estimated power consumption for operating the vehicle on the target off-road path segment. The EV driveline and the electric accessories are controlled during operation of the vehicle over the off-road route segment based on the estimated power consumption of the target vehicle. Doing so is to minimize the likelihood of low SOC events for the DC power supply of the path segment and avoid low battery states at locations remote from the charging station.
