The invention relates to a method and system for sector scanning of coherent LIDAR with collimated beams. In one embodiment, a device is provided that includes a LIDAR system having an array of waveguides arranged in a first plane. The array of waveguides is configured to generate a plurality of beams, wherein each beam is emitted from a respective waveguide in the array. The apparatus also includes a collimator configured to shape the plurality of beams into a collimated beam sector having an angular spread in a first plane. In addition, the apparatus includes a polygon scanner configured to adjust a direction of the sector in a second plane different from the first plane. The invention further provides a method adopting the equipment.
