The invention relates to the technical field of intelligent traffic, in particular to a method and system for detecting illegal occupation of a bus lane by a vehicle. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring a video image; based on the video images, whether obstacles exist on the bus lane is judged; if the obstacle exists on the bus lane, judging whether the obstacle is a vehicle or not; if the obstacle is a vehicle, judging whether the vehicle is a bus; if the vehicle is not the bus, obtaining vehicle information; and reporting the vehicle information to a cloud platform. According to the invention, the management of the bus lane is enhanced, and the effect of setting the bus lane is improved.
