The invention provides a key fob and a key fob transmission compensation method. The key fob comprises a memory device; a sensor programmed to output a detection signal; at least one transceiver antenna; a feedback mechanism programmed to provide a first feedback signal; and a processor programmed to access the memory device and further programmed to: receive a detection signal; determining that the object is proximate to a transceiver antenna in the key fob based at least in part on the detection signal; if the processor determines that the object is proximate to the transceiver antenna, adjusting an initial power setting of a transceiver in the key fob by an adjustment factor to transmit a first output signal at a first power level setting; receiving a first feedback signal indicative of a first output power level of the first output signal; comparing the first output power level with a threshold level; and transmitting a second output signal at a second power level setting if the power level of the first feedback signal is below the threshold level.
