The reinforcing strand (400) comprises a core (403) around which steel filaments (404) are twisted with the same final lay length and direction. The steel filaments are arranged in an intermediate layer comprising N first steel filaments and in an outer layer of 2N steel filaments arranged circumferentially around the intermediate layer. In the intermediate layer, the filaments will be in contact with each other at a closed lay length determined by the number N of steel filaments in the intermediate layer, the diameter of the core, and the diameter of the first steel filament. By selecting a final lay length and direction equal to between two and six times the closed lay length, a gap will be formed between the intermediate layer monofilaments. The 2N outer layer monofilaments are further divided into a smaller diameter steel monofilament group (408) and a larger diameter steel monofilament group (406).
