The present disclosure provides thermal interface material positioning within a traction battery pack. A traction battery assembly according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a heat exchange plate having a plurality of coolant channels distributed within the heat exchange plate according to a first pattern; and a thermal interface material disposed on a surface of the heat exchange plate according to a second pattern. The first pattern imitates the second pattern.
