The present disclosure relates to a bi-directional power supply system for powering a control unit (16) of an electric vehicle, the bi-directional power supply system comprising: a low-voltage main power supply adapted to power the control unit (16) in a first mode of operation, the control unit (16) being part of a low-voltage web; a high-voltage traction battery (14) of the electric vehicle, the high-voltage traction battery (14) being part of a high-voltage plate mesh; and a bi-directional DC-DC converter (12) adapted to transfer energy from the low voltage web to the high voltage web via the main power supply in a first mode of operation in order to power components of the high voltage web, the bi-directional DC-DC converter (12) further adapted to transfer energy from the low voltage web to the high voltage web via the main power supply in the event of a disconnection of the main power supply, transferring energy from the high-voltage web to the low-voltage web via the high-voltage traction battery (14) in a second operating mode in order to power the control unit (16); the bi-directional power supply system further comprises a measuring element (18) adapted to detect whether the main power supply is disconnected, and a switching element (18) adapted to switch operation of the bi-directional DC-DC converter (12) from the first mode of operation to the second mode of operation in the event that a disconnection of the main power supply is detected.
