The present invention provides a non-slip mat (10) for fixing to a water skateboard, the non-slip mat (10) having a shaped upper surface (20) with raised portions (22) projecting relative to the shaped surface by a projection height, some of the raised portions comprising a higher portion (104) having a projection height greater than a lower portion (102); a proportion of raised portions in one or more regions of the forming surface have respective higher portions in a particular direction on respective raised portions. The invention also provides a kick tail (14) for a water skateboard. The kick tail (14) can comprise a curved or concave lower surface (96). The tail may have a hole (64) in a rear face (60a) and/or a slot (72) in an upper or lower surface (34).
