A drive system (17) of an aircraft provides drive power for takeoff, landing and flight operations after takeoff and before landing, having a fuel cell (18) as a first power source, which fuel cell can be supplied with hydrogen by a hydrogen tank (19) and air by a fan (20), the driving device is designed to provide driving power for flight operation after taking off and before landing according to the hydrogen mass flow provided by the hydrogen tank (19) and according to the air mass flow provided by the fan (20); an electrical energy store (22) as a second power source, which is designed to provide additional drive power for take-off and landing. When the electrical energy store (22) fails, the fuel cell (18) can be supplied with an additional hydrogen mass flow by the additional hydrogen tank (23) and an additional air or oxygen mass flow by the air or oxygen tank (24). The invention also relates to an aircraft and a method for operating an aircraft.
