The invention relates to an indirect rear-view system for a motor vehicle, comprising a carrier element for fixing at least one reflective element, said carrier element forming a coupling region for position-variable mounting on an adjusting element that can be connected to the vehicle, wherein the coupling region has a first contact region and a second contact region axially offset from the first contact region for contacting a spherical connection region of the adjusting element, and wherein an imaginary separating surface extends through a transition region of the main body of the carrier element to the coupling region of the carrier element, wherein the first contact region is arranged on one side of the imaginary separation surface and the second contact region is arranged on the opposite side of the imaginary separation surface. The invention further relates to a mounting method for coupling a carrier element of an indirect rear view system according to the invention to the adjusting element, wherein the carrier element is moved from the direction of the reflecting element to the direction of the adjusting element.
