In an exemplary embodiment, a system is provided that includes one or more first sensors disposed on a vehicle, one or more second sensors, and a processor. The first sensor is configured to at least facilitate obtaining first sensor data regarding an external environment external to the vehicle. The second sensor is configured to at least facilitate obtaining second sensor data regarding one or more eyes of the vehicle driver. The processor is configured to at least facilitate: determining, using the first sensor data, a predicted gaze angle of one or more eyes of the driver based on an external environment external to the vehicle; a measured gaze angle of one or more eyes of the driver is determined using the second sensor data, and one or more vehicle actions are controlled based on a comparison of the predicted gaze angle and the measured gaze angle.
