The invention relates to a control unit for an elevator installation, in which at least one separating element (12, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35) is designed according to the invention in such a way that the safety circuit (3) can be interrupted less than 5 milliseconds, preferably less than 2.5 milliseconds, further preferably less than 3 milliseconds, in an active state of a safety element (7) of the drive unit (2), in particular a main protection device (8) or a functional unit, a specified operating state of the elevator installation, in particular a service bridge (5) contacted in the safety circuit (3), and/or a short circuit caused by a fault, is detected by means of at least one checking action.
