The invention relates to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pickup and delivery system, in particular to a method for landing an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on a UAV support mechanism, the method comprising: navigating the UAV to the UAV support mechanism; receiving a signal from a guide array of the UAV support mechanism; navigating the UAV to a landing area of the UAV support mechanism; guiding a width reduction portion of the UAV between opposing guide rails of the UAV support structure and engaging the UAV with the UAV support structure; and moving the UAV from the landing area to a return area of the UAV support mechanism.
