The invention discloses a diesel-electric hybrid power propulsion system and a control method, relates to the related technical field of ship propulsion systems, and is used for solving the problem that the speed regulation range of the diesel-electric hybrid power system is small. The diesel-electric hybrid power propulsion system comprises a diesel engine propulsion system and an electric propulsion system, wherein the diesel engine propulsion system comprises a diesel engine, an intermediate gear box, a main gear box, a transmission shaft and a propeller which are connected in sequence; the electric propulsion system comprises a power supply device, a frequency converter and a motor set, the frequency converter and the motor set are electrically connected with the power supply device in sequence, the motor set comprises a plurality of motors, and the motors are all arranged on the intermediate gear box. The multi-stage speed regulation device is used for achieving multi-stage speed regulation of the diesel-electric hybrid power propulsion system.
