A control system and method for controlling movement of a vehicle including an engine and a traction motor to provide vehicle creep, the control system including one or more controllers, where the control system is configured to: control the vehicle to creep when a torque path between the engine and a first set of wheels is open; the traction motor is controlled to provide traction torque to the second set of wheels to automatically move the vehicle to provide electric vehicle creep, where the electric vehicle creep is controlled by a mathematical model of engine creep torque that would be provided by the engine when the torque path between the engine and the first set of wheels is connected.
