An apparatus for reducing vibration of a steering wheel may include: a shake compensation logic unit configured to calculate a shake compensation torque for eliminating shake occurring in a steering wheel of a vehicle based on one or more of a motor current, a vehicle speed, and a wheel speed; and a shake compensation diagnostic unit configured to determine an operating state of the shake compensation logic unit based on one or more of a wheel speed, a steering torque, and a braking state.
