An aircraft environmental control system and a method of controlling airflow within an aircraft. An environmental control system includes an airflow interleaver and a mixing manifold including a mixing chamber. The airflow interleaver includes a first airflow directing structure configured to direct a second airflow toward a central axis of the mixing chamber and a second airflow directing structure configured to direct the first airflow away from the central axis. The method includes passing the first and second gas streams to a mixing manifold, mixing the first and second gas streams, including directing the first gas stream away from the central axis and directing the second gas stream toward the central axis. The airflow interleaver includes a tubular body, and a plurality of converging airflow guides and a plurality of diverging airflow guides extending from the tubular body and collectively configured to interleave a first flow of airflow flowing out of the tubular body with a second flow of airflow flowing outside the tubular body.
