A self-climbing mounting platform (100) includes two decks (110, 120) positioned above each other. Each deck comprises guide means (160) for movably supporting the deck on the guide rail (25) and locking means (170) for locking and unlocking the deck to the guide rail and/or guide rail fixing means (26, 27). Lift means (130) move the two decks relative to each other along the guide rails. At least one power source 200 powers the lifting means. The mounting platform climbs step by step along the guide rails by alternately locking and unlocking the lower and upper decks to the guide rails and/or the guide rail securing means and then raising the unlocked decks.
