A conditionally transparent touch control surface includes a base layer, a display layer, and a surface layer. The display layer comprises a plurality of display areas, and each display area has a closed state and an open state. The surface layer covers the plurality of display areas, and each display area is visible through the surface layer only when the display area is in an on state. The control surface is flexible and contoured to the shape of an interior surface, such as a vehicle. The display area may be reconfigured to match a particular function and display a particular icon, and the display area may be hidden when not in use.
