The invention relates to an aircraft assembly formed from mating semi-cylindrical sections and a method of assembling the same. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a semicircular cylinder section of a fuselage; advancing the semi-cylindrical sections across a plurality of stations in a process direction to separately and simultaneously work on the semi-cylindrical sections; and subsequently joining the semi-cylindrical sections to form a section of the fuselage. Each pair of semicircular cylinder sections, such as an upper semicircular cylinder and a lower semicircular cylinder, is advanced through an assembly line process to be delivered to a joining station for joining the semicircular cylinders together to form a circumferential section of the fuselage. A plurality of engaged circumferential segments are engaged together to form an elongate extent of the fuselage. An indexing feature is provided during an assembly process to monitor and control travel of the semicircular cylinder sections in a work station of an assembly line process, and optionally to guide the semicircular cylinder sections to an auxiliary work station or to delay travel through the assembly line to provide additional work for one of the semicircular cylinders as needed, and proper timing of the semi-cylindrical section to the joint station is ensured.
