A method of detecting an open-phase or phase undervoltage condition of an electrical converter cell (30), characterized in that it comprises determining (410) an extreme value, e.g. A maximum value and/or a minimum value, of a phase voltage of the electrical converter cell (30) over at least one fundamental period of the phase voltage, and comparing (420) the extreme value with a first threshold value, and if based on the comparison result, determining (420) the open-phase or phase undervoltage condition of the electrical converter cell (30). A phase loss or phase undervoltage condition is determined (430) if a first threshold criterion related to the first threshold is satisfied.
