The invention relates to a method of joining a first workpiece to a second workpiece. The aforementioned method involves securing a spark suppression cap to a first workpiece, the cap including an electrically insulating gasket and a cap body defining an air cavity. Once the cap has been secured, the tail of the fastener passes through the second workpiece, the first workpiece, and the washer are inserted into the air cavity. When the fastener is tightened, the tail of the fastener urges the gasket against the first workpiece and the first workpiece and the second workpiece are thereby clamped between the gasket and the head of the fastener to form a joint. Advantageously, it has been found that the formation of the connection in this way can help better protect the connection from arcs.
