The invention provides a cable receiving device for electric and hybrid vehicles equipped with a rechargeable storage device for storing electrical energy. The storage device may include a charging cable that may be connected to an external power supply device for charging the storage device and at least temporarily connected to the vehicle. The charging cable is stacked in a cable receiving device of the vehicle when not in use. The cable receiving device includes a closed receiving space for receiving a charging cable. The receiving space is delimited by a lower plate and an upper plate and is closed on all sides. The clear height of the accommodating space is only slightly larger than the diameter of the charging cable. The size of the receiving surface for the charging cable on the lower plate is sufficiently large so that the entire charging cable can be received in the form of a loop, and the receiving space has a side through-opening for the charging cable.
