The invention relates to the protection of a clutch (4) of a hybrid vehicle comprising a heat engine (2) providing a heat engine torque and a traction or assist torque, respectively, and at least one further power source (10, 18), a virtual limit of the heat engine being set above which the clutch (4) of the hybrid vehicle can be protected. The analysis and control means require the other power source (10, 18) to operate at least in part in engine mode. The virtual limit takes into account at least one actual temperature of the clutch and a rotational speed deviation between the crankshaft and the drive shaft, the maximum temperature of the clutch (4) being predetermined, according to the invention, a transition of at least partial transition of the at least one other power source (10, 18) into the engine mode is performed at least when the detected temperature of the clutch is above the maximum temperature, thereby reducing the torque of the heat engine.
