The invention relates to a method for monitoring an aircraft component, comprising the steps of: receiving a video stream representing at least a portion of the component from a video capture device; in the event that a predetermined condition is detected to be satisfied, extracting (24) the partial video stream to form a sequence of interest; identifying (26) at least one image of interest within the extracted sequence of interest; comparing (28) a signature obtained using each image of interest with at least one predetermined signature from a library of signatures; and generating (30) an anomaly detection signal if the comparison result satisfies a predetermined criterion.
