The invention relates to a ship draft detection device and method. The ship draft detection device comprises a laser radar, a limiting device, a buoy and a controller. The laser radar is used for emitting detection laser to the water surface, and the detection direction is vertically downward; the limiting device is used for limiting the position of the buoy on the water surface to be located under the laser radar. The buoy can float on the water surface and is used for returning the detection laser emitted by the laser radar to the laser radar; the controller is connected with the laser radar and used for controlling the laser radar to carry out distance detection, receiving distance data fed back by the laser radar and determining the draft of the ship based on the distance data and preset height data of the laser radar on the ship. According to the equipment, the distance of the water surface buoy located under the radar is detected through the laser haze, the immersion depth of the ship is determined based on the distance and the radar position data, and the effects of accurate measurement and convenient operation can be achieved.
