The invention discloses a wing box horizontal type assembly wing rib flexible shape maintaining device and method, the shape maintaining device is of a modular chain type structure, and each shape maintaining unit comprises an aluminum alloy framework, a sliding rail assembly, an external connection joint, a positioning locking assembly and a machinable plastic protection pad. The aluminum alloy framework is provided with accurate connecting holes which are connected with the positioning sliding rail, the external connection joint and the machinable plastic protection pad. The sliding rail assembly is composed of a sliding rail, a sliding block and a set screw and is connected to the framework through a screw. The external connection joint is composed of a supporting plate, an inner cover, an outer cover, a main shaft, a bearing, a pressing sleeve and a lining, and the external connection joint and the framework are connected through accurate holes in the two ends to form a chain type structure. Each shape maintaining device is of a chain type structure composed of a plurality of shape maintaining units according to the structure and the overall dimension of a wing rib product.
