The invention provides a multi-layer pinion arrangement for a rear wheel assembly of a bicycle having a chained shift, where the multi-layer pinion arrangement has a rotational axis and is adapted to rotationally conjointly couple with a transmission of the rear wheel assembly, where the multi-layer pinion arrangement includes at least 11 pinions of different numbers of teeth. Each pinion gear has, in the region of its teeth, an inner side and an outer side and a pinion gear center plane between the inner side and the outer side and orthogonal to the axis of rotation. The multi-layer pinion arrangement is designed in such a way that, after completion of installation, at least two pinions having the smallest number of teeth are designed to support itself in the radial direction and are coupled to the transmission via at least one other pinion having a larger number of teeth, the three pinions with the smallest number of teeth are arranged in such a way that the pinion center plane of the third pinion with the smallest number of teeth of the multi-layer pinion arrangement extends in the region of the axial end face of the transmission device or axially outside the transmission device.
