A steering shaft assembly includes a male shaft having a plurality of teeth extending radially outward from a part of the male shaft. The steering shaft assembly further includes a female shaft that receives a part of the male shaft and is fixed to the male shaft in a rotational direction, the male shaft being axially movable relative to the female shaft, the female shaft having an end part and a body part, wherein the end part of the female shaft has an end wall thickness that is less than a body wall thickness of the body portion, during axial movement of the male shaft, the end part is curved radially inward to define a hard stop position. At the hard stop position, the ends of the plurality of teeth of the male shaft contact the curved end of the female shaft.
