The invention provides a stroke detection device for a large-span portal crane. The device comprises at least one set of detection mechanisms, and each set of detection mechanisms comprises a connecting frame, a mounting frame, a guide roller, a detection wheel, a wheel shaft and an encoder; one end of the connecting frame is connected with a crane cart traveling mechanism, and the other end of the connecting frame is hinged to the mounting frame; the detection wheels sleeve on the wheel shafts, the wheel shafts are arranged on the mounting frames through bearings, the detection wheels and the mounting frames form rotatable connections, and the wheel treads of the detection wheels are in contact with the top surface of the track; the encoders are connected and arranged at the end parts of the wheel shafts; and the four guide rollers are arranged below the mounting frame, the wheel treads of the guide rollers are perpendicular to the wheel treads of the detection wheels, and the two guide rollers on the left side and the two guide rollers on the right side are symmetrically arranged. The stroke detection device can accurately detect and dynamically adjust the running strokes of track walking mechanisms on the two sides of the crane, and the synchronism of the track walking mechanisms on the two sides is improved.
