The invention discloses a positioning method and system for a monorail crane locomotive. A guide rail crane locomotive operation electronic map is drawn according to an operation route of the monorail crane locomotive; a starting point of the monorail crane locomotive on the operation electronic map is determined; in the operation process of the monorail crane locomotive, a vehicle-mounted rotary incremental encoder counts and measures the operation distance; and when the monorail crane locomotive stops operation, the position of the monorail crane locomotive on the electronic map is determined according to the operation distance and the starting point of the monorail crane locomotive. The drawn operation electronic map is stored in a controller, and before operation, the position information of the monorail crane locomotive is determined and marked in the electronic map. When the locomotive operates in a mine roadway, the operation distance is metered through the vehicle-mounted rotary incremental encoder, and data is updated to the electronic map, so that a dynamic running diagram of the monorail crane locomotive in the electronic map is realized. Therefore, GPRS and other network information are not needed, and the position of the monorail crane locomotive is located.
